Polka Dots and Peplums!

Bonjour! (Prepping for a French speaking and writing I have to do...yikes.) Today at Boces I worked on transferring alterations from a muslin fitting to my patterns. Getting ready to cut it in my final fabric! I had to draft a quick pattern for the peplum on the dress which took approximately 10 seconds. I also started brainstorming how I'm going to construct this sleeve pattern, it's going to be somewhat 3D so that's where pattern making gets fun! *sarcasm* Anyway, the polka dot part of this post! I actually don't think I've ever worn this shirt in public before so I figured I'd throw it on. That and it was one of the few remaining things hanging in my closet.. Need to do laundry today! I figured my pink-polka-peplum top was crisp, clean and quite springy. I slipped on my trusty skinnies for a casual, school appropriate twist and topped, er, bottomed it off with my cheetah print thong sandals. I also matched my toes to my lip with a nice bright pink. I am in love with my Stila Afterglow lip color in Electric Pink!!!!

Mother's Day!

Hello my beautiful spring flowers! Mother's day is comin' up fast, as usual and this year I actually want to surprise my mom. Sound familiar? Well instead of your mom opening her present and faking a smile, make her really smile this time around. (Too blunt?) Creepy thing is, while I was putting this collage together, I visited the Coach website then checked my e-mail to see if I could get any ideas from my fav daily fashion fix, The Zoe Report! Side note: If you don't already, you need to read The Zoe Report! I love Rachel Zoe, the woman is my hero, along with my dear Coco and Audrey, of course. Anyway, I checked my e-mail and not only did I have a Mother's Day themed Zoe Report, but HELLO! They had mentioned pieces from Coach as gifts as well. Creepy. Back to the presents though.. One of the biggest, obvious, no-brainer presents is uh hello, flowers! What mother doesn't like to receive to flowers? What person doesn't like to receive flowers?! Personally, I like to use my local florist because I love supporting local businesses. 1-800-flowers.com works just as well though! Their website also has chocolates, fruits and more, not just flowers. Avoid a stuffed bear or any animal for that matter though. Oh! One the biggest things I forgot is music!! Does your momma looooove Michael Buble? (New album, so excited) Does she love Huey Lewis? Dean Martin? Pick up a new CD, I think the CD's are more personal than just an iTunes gift card. Just a quick tip though, make sure she doesn't already have the album! Now, living in a region of New York where wineries are everywhere you look, it's not uncommon that you're a wine drinker. I won't lie, yes, I've had wine on certain occasions but that's like Christmas or to celebrate. My mother loves to relax with a lovely glass of Finger Lakes wine. If you're of age, definitely bring her a new type of wine or if she's a little wine connoisseur pick up a fancy glass for her! However, when presenting this bottle, a ribbon or bow is a must! If your mum is a techie, pick up a chic, springy case for her iPad or e-reader from Coach. I also found an adorable silk scarf from Coach that I am seriously contemplating ordering for my mum! I know my mommy loves spending time outside so I was think some chic Kris-Jenner-style sunnies, some cute Vera Bradley gardening gloves and a wide brim fedora! Chances are your mom deserves some time to relax and rewind so pick up a relaxing  candle, refreshing face mask, foot mask and finish off with a bright coat of nail polish! Last thing, if you know your mom's style and shoe size, don't be afraid to pick up a cute pair of springy shoes! Just keep in mind, mommies usually need arch support! Whatever you give your mom, as long as your put thought into it, she'll love it.

I really don't know what to title this..

Salut mes amis <3 In an odd mood today, I actually had a good day in French! That and I got to watch the music video for Kiss You today. (Omg I die over Harry dressed as a sailor... UGH) Maybe I'm in a darling mood because I wore my bright pink lip stick?! Whatever the reason, I'm just in a good mood! I realized I haven't updated you guys on what I've been working on for my senior collection so I'll update ya guys :) the past couple class days I worked on drafting a pattern for a blazer that I am suuuuper excited for! It'll be paired with a pair of cigarette pants. Last night I cut and sewed a pair of high waisted shorts in muslin, tomorrow I'm meeting my model to do a quick fitting. Today in class, I worked on the blouse that will be tucked into the shorts. Ah! So excited. Oh yeah I also had to hand sew the buttons onto a pair of high waisted pants! Everything is coming together great and I just get goosebumps! Tomorrow I hope to finish the collar and sew on a cuff to blouse. My outfit today was thrown together last minute but I'm still proud of it. I wore my white tweed motorcycle jacket (thrift shop!) over a chiffon blouse, slightly tucked into a classic pair of blue jeans with my trusty loafers. Have a lovely spring afternoon everyone!

Senior Prom!!

I HOPE YOU'RE ALL AS EXCITED AS I AM FOR THIS POST. And I better see some comments regarding what you guys think! So here we are, ladies and gentlemen, my Senior prom dress. I can't tell you how proud I am of myself! I don't think it could've come out any more perfect. The dress is made out of silk chiffon from my favorite fabric store, Rosen and Chadick, and spandex from Stretch House. I felt so beautiful in it! And I must say my date was the perfect partner for my dress. I've known Ryan for years and basically being twins, (birthday buddies!), but a year apart, I knew we'd have a ton of fun! And being my GBF who is also interested in fashion, I knew we'd be criticizing everyone's dresses and tuxes the whole night. So alas, here is my pride and joy. Beginning to the end.

Stay tuned for my post regarding best dressed for prom!

A Very Rachel Day.

Before I start, I would like to let you darlings know that a Prom post is in the works! So you stay tuned for a post about my prom dress and to see who I crown best dressed! But for now here's a quick post about my outfit today. I watched The Rachel Zoe Project last night and God knows how much I love that woman. Seeing her rock her signature bell bottoms with a sick shoe peaking out at the hem made me want to do the same today! I dug out a pair of jeans from at least one maybe two years ago that STILL had the tags on because I just didn't know what to wear with them! But alas my fav fashion guru inspired me and I wore my new Prabal Gurung for Target blouse. I chose minimal accessories and makeup because I wanted the floral print center stage. I just wore two simple bangles from my best friend and simple pearl studs. Of course I went with a statement lip, again paying tribute to the glamorous RZ. Finished it off by throwing a Chanel-esqe sweater over my shoulders as I ran out the door in my new favorite heels from Mossimo!

Prom Season!

Hey guys! With my Senior prom this weekend, I decided to give you all a few tips with prom season lurking around the corner! I'll let you know what you should do and when, things to keep in mind and what to carry with you! So first things first; what to do! Well figure out when prom is! Gather as many details as you can about it, for example: Important dates, ticket sales, ticket cost, seating arrangements, theme, location and so on. After or while getting the info, keep an eye out for a worthy date. I chose my very best GBF (gay best friend) who I've known since middle school. Choose someone who will compliment your personality, who you'll have fun with and dancing will NOT be awkward with. My GBF, Ryan, is into fashion like moi and anyone who knows us both can tell you we're basically twins. Image means a lot to me, as it does for Ryan, so I knew he wouldn't let me down when it came to style. (HIS SHOES ARE PERF OMG) After you've asked or been asked, and it has been confirmed you two are going together, tell him or her your colors. If you haven't found your dress yet, maybe invite him to come along! Obviously Ryan did not do this seeing as how I'm making my dress.. After the colors have been decided, take care of the jewelry. My darling best friend, Amanda, found a gorgeous pair of emerald chandelier earrings for me and my other jewelry is just my gold cheetah ring with emerald eyes. (I feel it's very Red Carpet) Don't know where to go for jewelry? Forever21 of course. Try Claire's, Sears, Jc Penny, or MACY'S HELLO? Or try one of those small boutiques you've been dying to go to downtown. When shopping for jewelry, keep your dress in mind. What type of neckline does it have? Does have a cool undertone or warm? Does it have long lacy sleeves or is it strapless? Does it already have enough 'bling' on it or does it need more sparkle? Decide on what style shoe you will feel most comfortable yet stylish in. As a girl who would rather bleed than take off her heels in public, I chose a gorgeous pair of minimalistic, ankle-strap heels with about a 5" heel. Another reason for choosing this style is because I have a slit in my dress which will reveal my gorgeous heels as I walk. My sister-in-law actually wore flip flops to her senior prom! She wore an absolutely breathtaking ball gown that covered her feet so she had no need for fancy shoes! So just remember, just because it's prom doesn't mean you need fancy heels! Unfortunately I have to say this, ladies, keep your date's height in mind. Some boys dislike being shorter than their ladies! I'll write an entry about hair, makeup and everything else tomorrow!

Thrifty!

HELLO MY LOVERS and obsessive best friend. I went thrifting with my betch the other day and let me just tell you... WE WERE POPPIN' THOSE TAGS. We went to several different shops, including Taco Bell, of course. Obviously we went to salvo and we both found stuff there! The entire day was so fun, however we had a rule: Anything you buy MUST be under $10! I actually scored a great pair of bright red trousers from Old Navy for $8.95 and I found my clutch for prom at TJ Maxx for $10! Amanda practically stole an adorable pair of loafers from JC Penny's for a mere $5! At Salvo, I scored a cozy vintage sweater at $0.99 and a blouse from the 80's (shoulder pads... shudder) at $2.99! Then my Lovey Dovey (Amanda) found a very feminine yet still vintagey sweater for $2! Ugh you gotta love a bargain. As a girl who will be going off to college in a few months, I'm not exactly supposed to be spending money. But thrifting not only gives you an adventure/treasure hunt, it gives you freaking awesome deals!!?! And let's be real here.... Who doesn't love saving money? So try your hand at it! Be like Macklemore! Or me... I don't know, whoever you'd rather be.. *cough cough me cough* Any whoooo... So the pictures are from my iPod and pictures taken on my iPod rarely turn out well. I'm talking quality wise.. But here are our bargains! Hope this inspires you all to go thrift shopping!
